Nintendo Switch update 18.1.0 is now available, and it discontinues X/Twitter integration, resulting in the removal of several previously available social media sharing options. This update also includes improvements to general system stability to enhance the user experience.
With the removal of X/Twitter integration, sharing options such as posting to Twitter from the Album in the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu and posting Super Smash Bros. Ultimate screenshots to Smash World in the Nintendo Switch Online smart device app are no longer available. Additionally, the ability to link X (formerly Twitter) from “Settings” > “User Settings” > “Posting to Social Media” and link social media accounts from “My Page” > “Friend Suggestions” have been removed.
The decision to discontinue X/Twitter integration aligns with similar actions taken by Sony and Microsoft in 2023 for PlayStation and Xbox, respectively. These decisions were prompted by changes to X/Twitter’s API, which began charging more for business use. Despite the removal of integration, X/Twitter maintains its commitment to enhancing the gaming community’s experience and continues its strong relationship with Nintendo.
